Black and White

“White is not a mere absence of color; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black. God paints in many colors; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white. ”
― G.K. Chesterton

At first glance, one thinks there are but a few remaining leaves still clinging to the tree, suddenly hearing them before you see them—the leaves are not leaves but rather a flock black birds. . .

The birds cling to the tender ice encrusted twigs.

The “mass” mentality of these birds is very strong–when one bird takes flight, the entire flock follows suit.

These birds are so aggressive with feeding that they will even work together to keep larger animals out of the mix, actually driving deer away from joining the meal.

  1. I’ve used that same Chesterton quote before. Great choice for these photos and great photos. Love the ways birds do things. Hope you’ve had a good day. I went out and tackled a job in the yard that turned out to be bigger than I thought, and parts of my body are protesting my hard work. Oh well, it needed to be done and it was a nice day to work outside for a while. Hugs, Natalie 🙂

    • Thanks Natalie—I do love Chesterton—I try very hard to never duplicate quotes, but I used this same quote back in the late spring, I think when showcasing a white rose or gardenia–not sure which—but it was just so apropos here—-today was in the 40’s and windy, so I didn’t venture out, but the sun was bright and beautiful—I think it’s suppose to be 68 on Wednesday–whooohooo!!! can’t wait!!
Hope the remainder of your weekend is splendid —much love to you—lil cookie

      • I try not to duplicate too but sometimes, one just fits another occasion so well. Oh I’m so glad you may have a nice day next week. I know you will enjoy get out. I have the last couple of days. I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow. Hugs and love to you too, lil cookie. 🙂
