What lies beneath

The proud depend upon the world to tell them whether they have value or not. Their self-esteem is determined by where they are judged to be on the ladders of worldly success. They feel worthwhile as individuals if the numbers beneath them in achievement, talent, beauty, or intellect are large enough.
Ezra Taft Benson

Be like the bird who, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing she hath wings.
Victor Hugo

What lies beneath, underneath, below. . .
supporting you,
lifting you,
holding you. . . ?

Is it firm and sound
or
shifting and sinking?

Any builder or architect worth their salts knows that before building, be it home or skyscraper, a solid foundation must first be set, poured or laid—
Pylons are driven down to bedrock and footings are poured for anchoring. . .
everything that goes up, must first be sound underneath.

Life rocks along. . .everything is as it should be, relatively perfect.
Happy,
flowing,
carefree. . .

We ride the waves of mediocracy hoping always to rise upward, never ever downward,
chasing the proverbial dream. . .
Then one day, out of the blue, catastrophe strikes. . .
Our world is rocked to its core.

We either fold or we hold on. . .
Survival determined by. . .
what lies beneath. . .

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.
Isaiah 28:16

Gregory’s contribution to your post today is so very beautiful! I don’t know where I would be without the firm foundation of my faith in God – God rescues, restores and reclaims each of us when we wander. God is there every moment of every day as we meet deep challenges in our lives. We are blessed when we know that we can count on the love of God. At times I have clung to our Lord by the tips of my fingers as I have felt myself falling off a cliff, so to speak, but God is faithful. We only have to show up. Thanks for this amazing post! Blessings.

    • Thank you Lynda—he got some good, and some not so good shots—steady hand and focusing needs a little work 🙂 but I was appreciative he’s let me “borrow” a few shots 🙂
I totally understand the thought of hanging on by my finger tips—i’m getting good at dangling and He is gracious to open HIs arms for when I finally let go. . .

Waves of mediocrity….. survival determined by what lies beneath………

What a great image, and jewels of thought. 😉

Was just talking about this the other day, and how the younger generation has no backbone, so will fall for anything. But as believers, great lessons for us too.

  3. Wow, I love the photo! And your post as always is stellar! It’s great to stand on the shoulders of the Lord and good friends. The Lord blesses us with our friends whom I believe are the family we choose. We are meant to love each other and support each other and keep each other strong in the faith. Thanks for the gift of friendship and support you so willing give to all of us. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤
