“There are no unsacred places;
there are only sacred places and desecrated places.”
― Wendell Berry
(St Kevin’s Monastery / Glendalough, County Wicklow / Ireland / Julie Cook / 2015)
Where is the Sacred,
the Holy,
the Hallowed?
Where has it gone?
Has man lost his connection to the Divine
and what it means to be
reverent,
quiet,
observant….
Oh how it so seems…
Does the mocking of a drowned two year old child, off the coast of Turkey,
make anyone else uncomfortable, distressed or disturbed…
or is it just me?
Does Charlie Hebdo and others who make light over everything and anything,
who use the satirical to…
malgin,
berate,
and draw attention to…
Do they, the magazines, the papers, the comics.. try to make us…
better,
wiser,
more insightful…?
Do they make us think, laugh or simply feel numb?
All with their mocking, ridiculing and disrespect…?
Freedom of speech…
it is the rallying cry is in not…
The defensive call to arms.
Yet whose word is free and whose words are not?
What of….
what of the respect found within that freedom…
what of the cost of human sanctity found within that freedom
what of the spilled blood found within that freedom
Was respect not rooted in the foundation?
Civility?
Courtesy?
Fairness?
What of the respect for…
for life,
for death,
for the living,
for the dying,
for the less than,
for the maligned,
for the young,
the old,
all found within that freedom…
What of the honor to be afforded to all human beings regardless of…
stature,
class,
race,
age,
belief,
Does none of that matter…
Is it all just fodder now for our obsession with the biting satire of our own contagious dark humor?
Oh laugh and chuckle if you will.
That nervous sort of ridiculing and jaded scoffing…
Join the masses of those who have grown numb, cold, closed, shallow, empty…
and so over the top that there is no longer room for the kind, the compassionate, the soul…
the Hallowed,
the Holy
or
the Sacred…
Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
Exodus 3:5
Amen Julie. Indeed, where is the sacred? Where is our awe for He who spoke and the worlds leapt into existence. Heck even among those who believe, He is just “The big guy,” or “The man upstairs.”
Whatever happened to understanding that we only even woke up this morning because He kept our very hearts beating?
You touched a nerve this morning!
I got riled yesterday Wally when I read an article about the Queen of Jordan and how she was striking back at Charlie Hebdo who have run several cartoons about the 2 year old migrant child who was drowned and washed ashore on one of Turkey’s beaches.
(the same child I did a post about–over the insanity of the way the world is going)
The magazine had recently run a cartoon showing that if the boy had survived and grown up, he probably would grow up to be a sexual miscreant and nothing but trouble like the rest of the refugees—the Queen shot back with her own cartoon saying that the boy could have grown up to be a doctor, a scientist, a loving father….I was so incensed that the magazine, which named the young boy, would use his tragic death to add to their magazines maligned character and would make light of such a tragic and senseless loss of life….as in nothing, not even the loss of a two year old child could be “sacred” and hands off from their mockery—I’m all for freedom of speech—but I just wish such outlets such as magazines , television, movies, comedians would see that they have a certain level of responsibility to mankind and just not to mock and ridicule…..
Agreed Julie, I had no idea about all of that.

Thank you Vincent—Happy chilly Sunday
You’re very welcome Julie, likewise my friend! Hot soup is on the menu all day 😀
🙂
Respect for the Creator results in respect for the created ones! We depend on God for every breath we take just like every other creature on the face of this earth. Blessings and prayers!
So very true Lynda–I hope you’re staying warm up there in Toronto–we’re rather cold and crisp down in near Atlanta 🙂
It’s a little chilly but it is winter, after all! I’ve been thinking of the thousands of refugees that are being welcomed into Canada in the middle of winter – such a challenge to become accustomed to the weather.
truly!!!
Wow, when you go on a rant it is a beautiful spectacle to behold!!! You go girl!!! Well said and right on! You must have had a belt of that moonshine before you belched this masterpiece out!!!! Love, love, love it and you.
🙂 ❤
PS. Though we all stand on sacred ground at all times, the evil one, the world and its allures, and the separation from the land by a majority of the people have convinced the ingrates and self-centered that it's all about them, and they perceive that needing anything or anyone is a sgin of weakness and stupidity.
Natalie, I always appreciate your passionate comments! Blessings to you.
she is a pistol isn’t she 🙂
Why thank you, Lynda! 🙂 ❤
Blessings back to you, Lynda! ❤️❤️
I like what Lynda says—you are a wonderful little pistol—I am always so heartened by your encouragement, love and support!!! Thank you always!!!!!
You are so welcome my friend. Not everybody has appreciated my forerightness over the years. But I am what I am and have lived long enough now to embrace it and expect others to like it or leave it.
I am so glad you appreciate it. Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤
I love it as I think we are probably two nuts out of the same shell 🙂
