“I will glory not because I am righteous, but because I am redeemed;
I will glory not because I am free from sins,
but because my sins are forgiven me.
I will not glory because I have done good
nor because someone has done good to me,
but because Christ is my advocate with the Father
and because the blood of Christ
has been shed for me.”
St. Ambrose

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
Isaac Watts, 1738 / Oh God Our Help in Ages Past
a hymn based on Psalm 90
I learned earlier this year that A. W. Tozer’s favorite hymn composer was Isaac Watts. He wrote that you could learn more by studying his hymns than from attending Bible college for 4 years. I don’t follow his logic in that one of the courses at the Bible college could be studying his hymns, but… Thanks for sharing.
I’m always a sucker for the great hymn writters of old 🙂
the background behind your top title of the ocean is absolutely life giving
thank you so much—I love the visiting the ocean and it is never easy trying to capture its vastness and fullness in just a photograph—but there is peace and refuge in that image and that is in part what I want to offer in this little blog of mine…
