So many boxes.
So many books.

The heavy dead-weight boxes of books are categorized by genre…
history, political, spiritual…Bibles, Pope John Paul II, St. Francis, Mother Teresa,
presidential biographies, WWII, Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, The Holocaust,
saints, cookbooks…on and on it goes…

Unpacking this unending mountain of boxes, I stumbled upon my collection of books
regarding Ronald Reagan.

I gingerly pulled out the books and magazines from this latest deep abyss,
taking stock of what I wanted to keep readily available and what could be stored away.

In the treasure trove, I found the above Time Magazine.
It was dated 2007.

I was still teaching at that time and I remembered that I had the magazine sitting on my
desk in the classroom.
A student saw the magazine and had a knee jerk reaction…
they scrawled a written response to the title of the story line…

I had a fit as I can’t stand to deface something I want to save…

The cover image was powerful…the scribbled black ink “GWB” was nothing more
then graffiti.

Sigh.

At the time, in 2007, some of my young charges were less than pleased with then President
George W.Bush.

We were embroiled in a seemingly endless war in the Middle East.

And so I now wonder…where and when exactly did the Right go wrong?

I suppose once life slows down, I will re-read that article–
looking back to what 14 years ago we wondered what might be the problem with Conservatism.

In 2007 we wondered what went wrong.
In 2021 we now consider such a word as pariah.
A taboo sort of mindset.

It seems much more has gone wrong than merely the loss of the right verses the wrong.

    Conservatism was never actually tried, lol. But seriously, was it? Or was it just more globalism with secret back door dealings?

    In my opinion, during the years after Reagan, the Republican party revolted not unlike what happened with “never Trumpers within today’s Republican party. GWB’s father was head of the CIA and I think is a clue to some of GWB’s “deep state” roots. He wasn’t conservative in the sense of a small government preference. He just wanted the government to grow in the areas of the military and larger world interventions.

    • You’re so right Jeff—it seems that most times we naturally think that a “Republican” equates to a politician who adheres to such “values” as conservatism as well as one who vows to be a big government watchdog—
      an individual who honors human rights and life…but the past has sadly taught us otherwise…
      It’s become a “what can benefit me” sort of mentality—which is so disheartening.

    It seems that any time an outsider (non-lifetime politician) comes into power, the establishment runs amok. We need more of those people in the halls of government, but unfortunately they all eventually fall into the abyss.

    There’s a video going around, I believe it’s under Nikola Tesla, but I could be wrong, that claims that every president between Reagan and Trump has been involved in a sort of “political crime ring.” It’s pretty convincing and makes some sense as to why they hate Trump so much. There’s also another video that shows every President that attended Bush #1 funeral opening an envelope and looking pretty scared. The claim is that before Bush went to the grave, he cleared his conscience and let them all know. Don’t know how true any of it is, but it sure makes a good explanation, and certainly an entertaining one. That’s exactly why I put my faith in God and not man. BTW, the graffiti on the magazine would have ticked me off too. LOL

    • oooo—I know Bush was a member of the Skull and Crossbones when he was at Yale–I also know that many of his predecessors were members of various secret societies.
      20 out of 45 were members of secret societies with 14 being Masons…
      So who knows.
      Heck, my grandfather, who had a degree in engineering from GA Tech in 1919, was also a Mason—so what can I say.
      I do think most life-long politicians have deep ties to deep things—perhaps that is one reason the political world hated Trump–he wasn’t tied into the be all to end all secret societies…he tended to be his own man–and often his own worst enemy—sigh.
