focus…

“There is nothing like suspense and anxiety for barricading
a human’s mind against the Enemy.
He wants men to be concerned with what they do;
our business is to keep them thinking about what will happen to them.”

C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

(reputation today)

We live in a time without any sense of true focus.

Rather, our culture focuses on the rabbit holes and not the obvious.

Our leaders continue to cross their roles, their lines and thus, our lives.

May God have Mercy…

No one can see God without falling in love with Him,
and no one can meet a saint without meeting God in him or her.
That is the good news: that in a world dedicated to the will to power,
there is no power greater than that of sanctity;
and that in a world dedicated to the pursuit of selfish pleasure,
there is no pleasure greater than that of unselfish love of God and man.
No one can ignore or refute the joy of a saint.

Peter Kreeft
from his book How to Destroy Western Civilization

    That’s an interesting observation from C.S. Lewis through Screwtape. Fear comes from being concerned with what will happen to us. I can see why God would want us focused rather on what we do.

    Reblogged this on Citizen Tom and commented:

    The phrase “fear not!” or something similar (depending on the translation) appears often in the Bible. This post helps to explain why.

  3. People have focus, they are just looking through a broken lens.

    I have often written about the rabbit holes that my mind goes down, but in reading your post, could it be that it is those times that I emerge from the rabbit hole to smell the clean air, as if that exists?

    • Yes and our leaders just want to become moles chasing all sorts of idiocy while never seeing the light of day!!

        That I definitely agree with. I saw how the GOP countered the multiple trillion dollar infrastructure bill with their version with three less zeros. That is about what the Wee Flea said was truly “infrastructure” within the bill – the rest all Woke agenda garbage. Welcome to the next four years if the republic even lasts that long.

      • When the speaker of the house holds up a drug addict and thief, who did die needlessly at the hands of a rouge cop, as a “savior”— we’ve got big troubles

        Yep, and I wonder how long the decision of the kangaroo court will last? Just about everything that our court system was designed to not happen did happen. Even if the evidence sounded good, the angry mob swayed their decision.

    Amen. Fear makes us blind and holds us hostage. Freedom takes courage. But His love casts out fear.

    Love the Peter Kreeft quote. Being loved by God is quite subversive in this world. I laughed when I saw it was from a book titled, “How to Destroy Western Civilization”!

  6. Good stuff, Julie. The Screwtape Letters is one of my favorites.

    • Short and sweet as I’ve been simmering just under a soon to erupt lid —simmering over so much— throw in my issue with your site today, and well… when it blows, I fear it won’t be pretty

  7. Tricia says:

    I love Screwtape Letters too. It’s so very relevant for today sadly. I guess for all time though too.

    That’s a really cool picture at the top. Did you take it?
