The gratitude of rain

“The rain to the wind said,
You push and I’ll pelt.’
They so smote the garden bed
That the flowers actually knelt,
And lay lodged–though not dead.
I know how the flowers felt.”

Refreshing
Life Giving
Satisfying
Cleansing

Just as Nature begins to lose all hope,
as leaves wither and fall away. . .
When insect and animal vie for rapidly evaporating morning dew
a dry parched land finds a much needed renewal of life.

The heavens descend in the form of life giving waters.
A healing silence fills the air.
The earth, as a massive dry sponge, drinks her fill
as every living creature rejoices in relief

Send some rain, would You send some rain?
‘Cause the earth is dry and needs to drink again
And the sun is high and we are sinking in the shade

Would You send a cloud, thunder long and loud?
Let the sky grow black and send some mercy down
Surely You can see that we are thirsty and afraid

But maybe not, not today
Maybe You’ll provide in other ways
And if that’s the case

We’ll give thanks to You with gratitude
For lessons learned in how to thirst for You
How to bless the very sun that warms our face
If You never send us rain
